U.S. Diplomats Evacuated in China as Medical Mystery Grows

The New York Times (06/06/2018)
  • Since 2016, 24 American diplomats and their families have been evacuated after suffering concussion-like symptoms (headaches, nausea, hearing loss) triggered by loud, unusual static-sounding noises.
  • Those impacted were living in upscale apartment complexes near the US consulate in Guangzhou, China.
  • Last year, American officials in Cuba suffered from similar ailments after hearing loud noises.
  • In response, Trump expelled 15 Cuban diplomats from the US last October.
  • While the source of the sounds haven’t been determined, suspicions are growing that the Chinese and/or Russian governments are responsible.
