  • While it’s widely understood that a youth’s eventual success as an adult strongly correlates with the economic prosperity in the neighborhood they’re raised, so-called “opportunity-zones” buck this trend.
  • Compared to other impoverished cities/towns, opportunity-zones such as Springwells Village and Sherwood Forest (both in Detroit) are less segregated, have better schools, better public facilities (parks, libraries), and have more two-parent households.
  • The biggest commonality among opportunity zones is a strong sense of community.
