Should we ban SUVs?

Fast Company (10/23/2019)
  • Since 2009, global SUV ownership has doubled and contributed more to global CO2 emissions than airlines, trucks or heavy industry.
  • Even worse, the increase has been the leading contributor to the 46% increase in US pedestrian deaths to 6,227 (2018) since 2009.
  • In response, several non-profits and politicians are pushing for SUV ownership restrictions and/or city bans.
  • 40% of total global auto sales are SUVs.
  • Mass adoption of electric SUVs won’t be very helpful since electric grids currently lack the recharge capacity.
