PG&E has begun cutting power across parts of Northern California. Nearly 800,000 will be affected

  • Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) has cut power off for nearly 500,000 customers in Northern California.
  • Another 300,000 will also soon lose power as part of the utility’s efforts to prevent wildfires.
  • Northern California’s current weather conditions (strong winds, humidity) were present when a PG&E power line touched nearby trees and sparked the 2018 Camp Fire.
  • PG&E paid insurance companies and local governments $12 billion (settlements) for its role in California wildfires over the last three years.
