Parents Are Hiring Babysitters or the ‘Disco Nanny’ for a Night Out

The New York Times (NYT) (08/27/2022)
  • European vacation hotspots such as Ibiza and Mykonos offer 24-hour babysitting agencies with nannies who can watch children overnight.
  • These “disco nannies” charge 20-30 euros/hour, often education degrees, speak multiple languages and many offer children’s art and swim lessons.
  • If given adequate sleeping accommodations, these nannies can also watch children into the next day while parents recover.
  • While most parents are respectful, nannies’ bad experiences include parents staying out longer than requested and returning too drunk to pay babysitters.
