NCAA clears student-athletes to pursue name, image and likeness deals

  • Following a Supreme Court ruling, the NCAA’s board of directors officially suspended rules prohibiting college athletes from selling the rights to their names, images and likeness (NIL).
  • College athletes can now profit by monetizing their social media accounts, signing autographs, participating in advertising campaigns as well as many other business ventures.
  • Athletes will also be able to sign with agents to secure endorsements.
  • However, NCAA rules still prohibit schools from directly paying athletes.
  • Many athletes have already announced business partnerships and endorsements.
