- Apple issued its first shares public 37 years ago today (raised $100 million).
- The issuance made all 40 Apple employees millionaires, especially 25 year old co-founder Steve Jobs ($217 million).
- A $1,000 investment would be worth almost $400,000 today.
- However, Apple’s first 20 years were marked by periods where shares were been 80-90%.
- Things got so bad that Jobs was forced out in 1985 (he sold all shares but 1) and Apple almost went bankrupt ( saved by Microsoft 1997).
- Most returns came after iPod release (2001).
