Penn Station Is New York’s Commuter Hell, and It’s About to Get Worse

Bloomberg (06/29/2017)
  • Rail renovations at Penn Station have started (July 10th – Sept 1st) in response to increasing ridership and lagging infrastructure (vs London, Singapore, etc).
  • The renovations will dramatically reduce service (track/platform closures) for Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road, and NJ Transit.
  • In response, the transport authorities have increased discounts and alternative transport availability (buses, ferries, etc).
  • The renovations will increase the weekday commute into Manhattan by at least 30 minutes for many workers.
