Jay-Z backed JetSmarter raises $105 million to become Uber for private jets

TechCrunch (12/12/2016)
  • JetSmarter is an app that allows travelers to book a seat on private jets to 50 markets including NYC, London, and Paris.
  • Most of the funds raised came from early backers (Jay-Z, Saudi Royal Family) and it’s valued at $1.5B.
  •  Currently, the app is for members only ($15K/yr).
  • JetSmarter doesn’t own any planes; it works with owners, operators, and pilots to schedule flights.
  • The company hopes to expand to 100 markets and offer “on-demand” access to seats for non-members.
